The Museum houses a wealth of objects, pictures, models and paintings that illustrate Maryport's proud maritime and painting tradition.
Housed in a Victorian Naval Reserve Battery this award winning museum houses the largest collection of Roman altars from a single site in Britain and lies adjacent to the clifftop fort of Alauna part of Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site.

Maryport Maritime Museum
Tells the story of the docks the town and Maryport’s most famous inhabitants, such as Henry Ismay, founder of the White Star Line (of 'Titanic' fame) and the family of Fletcher Christian of the Mutiny on the Bounty. The Maritime Museum also houses the Tourist Information Centre.
