WELCOME to Maryportlocal - a new website for Maryport and its people brought to you by the Times & Star.
We want your help to ensure this site becomes essential viewing for everyone in the town.
Maryportlocal has been running for a few weeks now and I hope that you (and me) are starting to get the hang of it.
Remember, this is YOUR page.
If you've got anything you want to say, if you have an event coming up, if your organisation is doing something interesting, let me know.
And not only organisations. If you've had triplets, are celebrating and important anniversary or have come back from a fascinating trip then get in touch.
Email me here or call me on 01900 812116.
At seventy years of age I have made my first foray into the world of volunteering and havew to say I wish I had done it years ago. With others I help run a small cafe in the Ewanrigg and Netherton Community Centre and we have averaged 100 customers each of the four Tuesdays we have been open so far. The cafe is only open the one day a week from 9a.m. to 3 p.m. but who knows what it may lead to. The Centre is a base for after school and youth clubs, help for the self-employed, a food co-op amd a bingo session serving mainly the elderly. To be part of that is more rewarding than anything else I have done in my lifetime. To anyone whose given just a passing thought to voluteering then my advice would certainly be do it!!
By the way we are involvced in the 'Together We Can' fortnight starting 10th November and Chef John Crouch is demonstrating in our cafe howe to make the best of a bag of vegetables or fruit.PS I note the site hasn't been updated since September, I hope this will help resume activity.View all comments on this article

We done Bill!, and thanks for giving 'Together we Can' a good plug. The Ewanrigg and Netherton Community Centre - Community Cafe is a wonderful enterprise serving local folk with great food and a warm welcome. 'Together we Can' is a 2 week run of events put on by public services in the Maryport area for two weeks starting today. We are just trying to help residents in the area understand a bit better just what a variety of things go on day in and day out, under the banner of public services.... Watch out for the banners and people with yellow hi-glo waistcoats, they just might be at an event near to you.
