Dare we mention the P word?

WITH Reds making it 12 games unbeaten with an impressive 1-0 win over an expensive Stalybridge side, it was only a matter of time before the P word started to get banded around.
Reds have yet to taste the bitter sensation of defeat in 2010, and that has led to certain sections of the crowd, the media and voices from inside the club daring to dream of that P word – promotion.
Whenever a team goes on a run like this the heart begins to race, the adrenaline begins to pump and you allow yourself to get caught up in the drama of it all.
Edmo’s Army have had a great season and it’s not over yet. In fact there’s a lot left to happen.
We still have a chance of getting to Wembley, and, with three games in hand over some of the play-off-chasing teams, anything is possible.
This great run of form is down to something that has been missing in recent years.
That, of course, is consistency. The win on Tuesday made it six in the last seven games and took the unbeaten run one step further.
This Workington side is still very young and in some ways inexperienced, but the spine of the side is keeping it together and dragging it forward.
With the likes of Tony Caig, Kyle May and Tony Hopper in the side, showing grit and determination in every game, it’s no surprise that the team are doing as well as they are.
Reds have always shown promise in games but let themselves down in others, but this season is changing that all together.
They look a more organised side. They are not shipping bags of set-piece goals and there is a sense of belief that has been lacking at times.
I don’t know if Reds are ready to make the step up to the Blue Square Premier. Yes, they have beaten Rushden, Wimbledon and Barrow last season but making that step up on a full-time basis could be very difficult.
There are three massive games in the league coming up: Droylsden, Alfreton and Ilkeston. Those matches alone won’t determine how the season ends up, but they will be a good indication.
