THE LAST two bands have been chosen for the final of Maryport blues festival's battle of the bands.
Cosmic Debris and Skinwalker were chosen to go through to next week's final to compete for the prize of opening the 11th Maryport Bitter and Blues Festival on July 24.
The third heat took place on Friday in front of more than 100 people at Grasslot Working Men's Club on Garner Street.
Five bands from all over the county battled it out for a place in next week's grand final.
Workington band Cosmic Debris have been together for nine months and regularly play gigs around Workington.
Their line-up is vocalist Linzi Cox, 21, keyboard player Sarah Bennett, 22, bassist Wayne Pearson, 25, guitarist Andrew Lillico, 24, and drummer Jamie Reid, 26.
The band said they were influenced by Deep Purple, Frank Zappa and Rush.
Linzi said: "If we won it would be the first time that everyone in the band got to perform in the festival, it would be an amazing experience."
Classic rock band Skinwalker played at last year's blues festival and the White Mare pub rock festival.
They are in the middle of producing their second album which will be released at the end of the year.
The Carlisle band has been together for two years and list their influences as the Bon Jovi and The Who.
Skinwalker's line-up is vocalist and bass player Kev Robinson, 29, guitarist Paul Doherty, 50, Drummer Mike Ellis, 35, Jim McClelland, 60, and keyboard player Jeff Downey, 39.
Kev said: "It would be great to open Maryport festival. It was brilliant playing as a support act last year but to actually open the festival would be a great achievement."
The other bands which put in top class performances were Workington rock band Ruffkut, Carlisle blues band Blind Dogs and The Mothership, a rock band from Dumfries, who performed a set of their own songs.
Cosmic Debris and Skinwalker will play against Nine Lives, Third Idea, Feed Me and Colt 45 at the final next Friday.
