The youngster, aged about nine, ran away after the accident which happened at traffic lights in Washington Street at 1.15pm. Police want to trace the boy, who was wearing an orange and grey anorak and black trousers. Anyone with information can contact police on 0845 33 00 247.HAND-HELD computers are to be issued to police officers in Cumbria to slash red tape and keep them out on the beat for longer. They can be used instead of a notepad, reducing the need to return to police stations and input details into the force’s existing computer system. The number of devices Cumbria police will be able to buy has yet to be finalised.LAKE District planners will not take enforcement action over the erection of a fence at Strathmore in Braithwaite near Keswick, as long as it is painted green within a reasonable time. The authority said enforcement would not be in the public interest.
