Miners turn the tide

WINDSCALE dominated Miners for much of the first half, but Miners manfully turned the tide to finish 6-2 up.
Within a minute of the kick-off Harry Whitfield beat the Miners’ defence and netted with a high shot over the keeper.
The crowd were then treated to a midfield struggle of epic proportions. Neither team was able to break through. Then Miners conceded a penalty, which Whitfield converted with style.
With three minutes to go before the half-time whistle Matthew Sempill lobbed in a long shot. Time seemed to stand still as the ball bounced over the advancing Scales keeper then bounced again, seemingly destined for the top left corner.
Celebrations had started when the ball just clipped the bar and slowly crept over and rolled down the back of the net.
Sempill’s next long shot beat the keeper and was in. Then he dropped a corner ball to the back post to be headed in by Ewan McAllister.
Miners got into their passing rhythm after the break. In the seventh minute defender Connor Hollerin rushed forward, called for the corner ball and powered it just inside the far post.
Shortly afterwards Rhys Miller’s low shot squeezed under the Windscale keeper. Then Rhys created the fifth by passing from the right wing to Ben Graham who steered it into the net. Ben completed the half dozen with another low shot.
Man of the match: Ben Graham for Miners, Harry Whitfield for Windscale.
