MARYPORT’S Settlement looked to nature for some spectacular art displays at its Autumn Fete last weekend.
Torpenhow artist Julian Longcake produced scarecrows, while The Settlement’s own art worker Michelle Lawrence created garden art which included bird feeders, masks, collages and fish weaved from willow.
Her mother, Jane Lawrence, of Maryport, demonstrated ways to use herbs either for health-giving drinks or for relaxing bathing.
Settlement manager Jane Donaldson said it was the first real community event since the educational institute reopened last year and she was delighted with the turnout.
She said: “We had about 80 people through which is great for a first event – and they all had fun.”
Local crafts people were invited to display and sell their wares and there were seven craft stalls.
Other activities included apple bobbing, tombola, cake and plant stalls.
